My name is Elaine Atkinson, and I am a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. My strongest interest is in illustrating children's books. I have a varied background, although the last 26 years of ''8 to 5" were spent in one place as a graphic designer at Texas Tech University.
I have a Bachelor of Advertising Art & Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre - Design Option. Both degrees are from Texas Tech University and have been used extensively in designing and executing everything from greeting cards for Hallmark and Rust Craft to illustrating First Reader by Phyllis Schlafly, a 192 page phonics reading system geared toward pre-schoolers. My art work experience includes a wholesale merchandise catalog, layout and design art for an advertising agency, art director for an NBC-TV affiliate, and graphic design for Texas Tech University. In addition, I have designed and executed stage sets, lighting and costumes for numerous plays, musicals, an opera and a ballet. While earning the MFA degree, I had the opportunity to act as stage manager and assist in designing many other productions.
A few additional freelance assignments have included: brochures, posters, book illustration, greeting card designs, logos (14 of which are published in
The Book of American Trademarks), food packaging, record album covers and record labels. |
